King Kamehameha I, also known as Kamehameha the Great, was the conqueror and first ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii. An important figure in Hawaiian history,  he united and ruled the islands during a time of great cultural change. This statue can be found on Kamehameha Avenue also known as Hilo Bay Front and is decorated with an abundance of colorful and fragrant leis on his day every year. The border is of a Painted Bark Tree that was located in front of Waikea Villas.
