Welcome to Pahoa!

$3.99Price

E komo mai means welcome in Hawaiian. Pahoa is a quaint little town with a big heart. It is located in the Puna district and is about 20 miles south of Hilo. Pahoa is usually hopping with activities, concerts, events, and parades. There is a great selection of restaurants and unique shops with a new shopping center up the road. But my favorite parts are the older ones where you can take a walk down a narrow street lined with sugarcane and be transported to another time. I did this after the lava threatened the tiny town back in 2014. That's why the sign for a chiropractor says, "We're staying." The lava flow photo was taken at the Recycle and Transfer Station. Vintage homes that are challenged by sea air and time stand less taller than they were, but just as proud. Old anthurium farms show their tattered wind tarps giving a tiny glimpse of the treasures inside. The Mother Mary statue is from the Catholic Church, and the prayer flags flying in the breeze are from a local gift shop. The opposite side of the postcard shows a vintage Ford Mustang that has seen better days as well as an old boat in the distance. So many photo opportunities to discover here. Welcome to Pahoa! #OAA-PC 00004 A Hawaii-themed POSTCARD from our Out and About series.
